Families & community the clear winners at the first Lane Cove My Kids Market for 2018

Hundreds of mums, dads, grandparents, aunties and uncles flooded through the doors at St Ignatius College on Sunday 11 March for the first My Kids Market NSW event in Lane Cove for 2018. The queue formed from 8:30am with eager shoppers wanting to be the first to enter the market when doors opened at 9am.

“This market had it all! Excited stallholders with tables overflowing with amazing quality pre-loved items; happy shoppers walking away with their arms full of bargains and more than a few contented kids who had managed to score a new favourite toy! So many shoppers were commenting on the quality of the goods and the low prices. We even had stallholders giving away items for free towards the end of the event!

My Kids Market NSW is truly a family and community event. Kids were entertained by Jenny’s Kindergarten Lane Cove North with play dough, colouring-in and even some delicious banana bread to fill those hungry tummies. Mum and dad were also taken care of with the onsite coffee van.

Adding to the community element, donations were collected for Share the Dignity, the ongoing charity partner of My Kids Market NSW. Since June 2017, 465 sanitary items have been collected for Share the Dignity at My Kids Market NSW events. These items will be sent to Share the Dignity to distribute to homeless women and women fleeing domestic violence.

Stallholders were also able to donate any leftover goods to Mummies Paying It Forward who were on site to collect the donations. Four completely full car loads of toys, books and clothing were donated as well as two high chairs, two scooters, a baby bassinet, two baby car seats and five baby walkers. These items will be distributed by Mummies Paying It Forward to their 18 local partner charities.

Supporting the community is so important to us at My Kids Market NSW and through Share the Dignity and Mummies Paying It Forward we make it easy for everyone at the Market to participate. It is such a simple act that the shoppers and stallholders can get involved in, but one that really makes such a difference to those women and families in need.

Lane Cove shoppers will have their next opportunity to join the market when it returns to St Ignatius College on Sunday 24 June.
